Roberto Diago broaches the racial theme from an anthropological perspective. In so doing he adds elements and signs from the African culture. He emphasizes on the domination and marginalization processes endured by the individuals of this race. Elements like faces, houses, birds and trees may be identified as characteristic of his creations, all of them with a formal treatment that makes use of the expressiveness of the great color planes and the linearity of the figure. He moves comfortably between painting, installation and photography. In his works he experiments with diverse techniques and materials – particularly assemblage art –, like for example wood from demolished houses in marginal neighborhoods and zinc plates. He likewise adds different textures in the form of collages to his bi-dimensional works, particularly jute, which contribute a plurality of textures. He has also broached abstract art.
