Ivan Capote

Born in Pinar del Río, 1973, lives and works in Havana.

Education and Professional Experience

He completed his art studies at the National School of Art in Havana, (1988-92).

Capote’s solo shows include Armonía de Contrarios (Harmony of Opposites), Habana Gallery, Havana (2001); Drawings and Projects, Brownstone Foundtion, Paris (2003); Pensamientos Paralelos (Parallel Thoughts), Havana Galerie, Zurich (2006), and Aforismos (Aphorisms), Habana Gallery, Havana (2006).

Collective Exhibitions and Events

His recent participation in group exhibitions include, in 2006, the art fairs (with Habana Gallery): Show Off, Paris, and Art Forum Berlin 06, in addition to Certain Encounters: Daros Latinamerica Collection, Morris Art Gallery and Helen Belkin, Vancouver (2006), and Face to Face, Daros-Latinamerica, Zurich (2007).

Awards and Residencies

He has received several prizes and scholarships, including the UNESCO Prize during the Seventh Havana Biennial (2000) with the DUPP artists’ group (From a Teaching Practice), the Noemi Prize and the residence of the Brownstone Foundation, Paris (2003).

In 2004 he was an artist in residence at Matress Factory, Pitsburgh.
