José Omar Torres

Matanzas, 1953. Painter and engraver

Education and Professional Experience

He studied at the National School of Art in Havana, later graduated at the Higher Institute of Art and obtained an art residence in Brandywine Workshop, Philadelphia, USA.

He has conducted courses in engraving and has also been juror.

Member of the Association of Writers and Artists of Cuba and of the International Association of Plastic Arts of UNESCO.

Personal Exhibitions

Since 1973 he has exhibited in solo shows in Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, Panama, Sweden and the United States of America, as well as in numerous group exhibitions.

Awards and Residencies

He received the Diploma for Merit in Art granted by the Higher Institute of Art (ISA), and the Distinction of National Culture.

Collections

His works are in the Museum of Prints of the National Museum of Fine Arts; in the Experimental Graphics Workshop; in the University Museum of Antioquia, Medellín, Colombia; in the House of Culture of Ecuador; Fénix Foundation, Stockholm, Sweden, among other places
